OLD SCHOOL: Banning-Beaumont Before Facemasks, in Black-and-White

It is one of the oldest football rivalries in California. Yearbook photos show predecessors of today's Broncos and Cougars, who face off at 7 p.m. tonight to see who's best in the San Gorgonio Pass.

When the Banning-Beaumont football rivalry started many decades ago, helmets didn't have facemasks and photos were strictly black-and-white.

The images are from the 1930s, '40s, '50s and '60s, when each team enjoyed spells of dominance.

Back then, winners of the Banning-Beaumont sometimes referred to themselves as "King of the Mountain."

Last year Beaumont smoked Banning 38-0 on the Broncos' brand-new field.
