Beaumont's 'Movies Under the Stars' Canceled Due to Hathaway Fire Near Banning

Noble Creek Park, where the outdoor movie series is held, is being used as a fire camp, officials tell Patch.

The summer's first 'movie under the stars' in Beaumont has been canceled because fire crews have set up base camp at the park where the event is normally held, officials tell Banning-Beaumont Patch.

According to Diane Gonzalez with Beaumont-Cherry Valley Recreation and Park District, which hosts the annual summer movie series, the movie scheduled to begin at sundown will no longer show.  The District was expecting approximately 500 people to fill ball field #1 to watch Chipwrecked under the open skies.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see everyone next week," Gonzalez said.

Fire crews are utilizing the park as a base camp for commanders, crews, cooks and other personnel assigned to the nearby Hathaway Fire, northeast of Banning.  As of Monday morning, an estimated 1,500 acres had burned in steep terrain in the San Gorgonio wilderness

It wasn't immediately clear if the Park District would reschedule Monday's movie.
