Phone: (248) 534-7203 Hometown: White Lake Birthday: January 7 Bio: I consider myself an old-school journalist - growing up in White Lake I worshipped the likes of Edward Murrow, Ernie Pyle, Martha Gellhorn and Robert Capa. White Lake is my home town. I spent most of my time reading at the library or playing sports. I left home for four years to attend journalism school at Michigan State University. There, I earned a degree in journalism with a specialty in history. I consider myself passionate about 5 things: books, the truth, sports, Michigan State and community journalism. Your Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics How would you describe your political beliefs?: I tend to be moderate and independent on most political issues. When it comes to an election I find I vote more for the person, not the party. Are you registered with a certain party?: - No Religion I believe in karma, love and acceptance. Local Hot-Button Issues What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?: I think there are several hot button issues in White Lake. First and foremost, the township budget and taxes. In the last few years the tax base in White Lake has dropped significantly. Despite the economy, the township's residents have supported several millages for the police department, fire department and library. I light of the budget struggles I think it will be interesting to see where cuts are made, if people feel they are the right cuts, and how long the township's residents will continue to support millage requests for essential services. Where do you stand on each of these issues? As a tax paying resident in White Lake I am always interested in how my money is being spent. I want to know what services are being supported, what services are being cut and why.
