Nothing new there Black panther o Poetry the human race has been delving the depth of depravity forRead More eons. There are a lot of good people in our world, but unfortunately evil is hyper active

It says Around Town but the headline is UTAH. Utah is not near Natick!! I think everyone should notRead More open an article on Patch unless they see their town's name in the headline. So If it doesn't say Natick, then we all know it is not LOCAL to the Natick Patch. The less clicks these Patch sites get, the fewer advertisers they will get and then perhaps they will realize if we want sensational news from across the country we'd go back to Patch's former owners AOL and the HuffPost! Those here from other Patch sites - I think you should do the same only click on articles that mention your community's name. No name. No click!

Rather than sadly remember the victims of violent crime, why don't we ANGRILY remember those thugsRead More that did it and have yet to be punished?

It must be different inside Beaumont than in Cherry Valley, for I went through some streets like theRead More Blvd, where temp stop signs were and volunteers manning the intersections, but it wasn't any trouble to get through very quickly. Are you saying that entire streets are shut down during the race?
beaumontdave April 4, 2014 at 05:45 pm
Drove through it a bunch, watched the lead packs at a couple intersections, ran errands, chased yardRead More sales, and did some work without any big issues. Knowing your way around helps.

It used to go up Oak Glen Road. Felt sorry for them going to the top. Bet that was one rough ride.

Marilyn & I landed in PS at virtually the exact same time. If I'm wise, I'll leave with her asRead More well. I suspect if the city of Palm Springs is wise, they'll commission another sculpture of her. This art-piece has become a much needed icon in a city missing it's own rich history. But true to form, I see no outcry from city residents. And they wonder...
Larry Mendelsohn April 3, 2014 at 03:30 pm
Marilyn needs to be in Palm Springs (2nd choice: Time Square, NYC). I spoke to the fellow who isRead More actually driving Marilyn to Trenton, NJ. He told me that the statute of "The Kiss" by the USS Midway in San Diego was purchased from the same owner for $1.5 million. Price may have gone up, but there is certainly more then enough wealth in the Coachella Valley to put together the funds to buy Marilyn. While there at it, how about putting together a fund to provide free transportation for the Marines from 29 Palms who are killing themselves on HWY 62 driving to Palm Springs for liberty. Semper Fi and Anchors Away.

Still it would be a good idea to seriously consider whether you have done everything practical to beRead More prepared. Having just taken the CERT Training I understand most people haven't taken necessary steps to safeguard themselves and their families.

My friends in Beaumont felt the quake and I think its because they are on bad ground. Being on topRead More of an big aquifer that ground can cave in. I know people on the hill above didn't feel a thing for they are on solid rock up there. Anyone ever wonder about the risk of the ground falling in on top of that basin?
beaumontdave March 31, 2014 at 12:16 pm
Robbie, I read that a high water table can lead to liquefaction, but Beaumont's isn't high and mostRead More of the soil is more clay than sand, so the city's probably on good ground, but wedged between two active faults with a lot of smaller "cracks". When my friends lived at Orchard and Beaumont Ave, I happened to look at a USGS map, and saw a fault line going through their rental home, made them nervous as hell. lf I was buying or leasing I'd look at the USGS maps.

@Alex Bloated pensions of our teachers?! Teachers pay for their own pensions. The school districtRead More doesn't contribute a single dime to any teacher's pension. Unlike the city, county and state workers, they get their money matched. For every dime they contribute to their pensions, the state, county or city matches that dime. What would be nice would be to have the district pay for supplies so the teachers don't have to shell out the money. I understand that extra curricular activities cost money but that is something you choose to participate in. I would love to see the parent's reaction to having to provide construction paper, writing paper, glue sticks, scissors, paint, tape, staples, etc. to their child's education. I know that was just a few of things I had to provide for my students each and every year.
KarmaKing March 19, 2014 at 01:57 pm
"Teachers pay for their own pensions. The school district doesn't contribute a single dime toRead More any teacher's pension." Not so Sarah. Teacher's contribute 8%, school districts contribute 8.25% and the State kicks in 5%. That's according to CALSTRS which is the State's teacher pension system ( http://www.calstrs.com/general-information/plan-funding-faqs) and a recent OC Register article here: http://www.ocregister.com/articles/state-602273-percent-districts.html. of course, if CALSTRS can't address it's $70 billion unfunded liability, taxpayers have to pick up that tab also.
