Visit the UC Riverside Botanic Gardens and Take Home a Plant

You can tour the UC Riverside Gardens this weekend and shop at the annual plant sale, with more than 500 varieties available to take home.

The annual plant sale at the University of California Riverside Botanic Gardens is an opportunity to see natural horticultural beauty and take it home.

The gardens are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and the annual plant sale is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Nearly 10,000 plants of more than 500 varieties will be available to purchase, including trees, shrubs, vines, herbaceous plants, shade plants, water plants, house and patio plants.

Plants that attract hummingbirds or butterflies will be available, as well as drought tolerant and California Native plants, and plants that are fragrant or suitable for cut flowers or foliage.

UC master gardeners, expert gardens staff, and volunteers will be available to answer questions about the plants being sold.

The gardens comprise 40 acres of rugged, hilly terrain along the eastern boundary of the UC Riverside campus, in the foothills of the Box Springs Mountains. The gardens date to 1963 and include seven horticultural collections and six geographic collections as well as a pond.

The gardens are located at the end of Botanic Gardens Drive off of Campus Drive in Riverside. There are detailed directions online.

There is a suggested donation of $4 to enter the gardens and a small fee for temporary parking on the campus.
