VIDEO: Chill Sets in Early Thursday, More Cold on the Way

Temps dipped below freezing in the Pass area early Thursday and near freezing in parts of the Coachella Valley, and more cold weather is expected this weekend.

It was colder overnight in the mountains. At 4 a.m. Dec. 5 it was 22 in Pine Cove, 26 in Angelus Oaks and 19 at Big Bear Lake, according to the National Weather Service.

It was also 19 degrees Fahrenheit at the Palm Springs Aerial Tram's mountain station, elevation 8,516 feet, just before 10 a.m. Thursday. The overnight low there was 14 degrees, according to the tram's weather page.

Highs Thursday and Friday were expected to peak around 45 for Banning and Beaumont, and around 60 in Palm Desert, according to the Weather Service.

An approaching storm system is expected out of the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, according to the Southern California Weather Authority.
