Red Flag Warning for the Pass from Noon Saturday thru Sunday Evening

A red flag warning for "critical fire weather conditions" has been issued for an area including the San Gorgonio Pass from noon Saturday through Sunday evening.

The Southern California Weather Authority issued an updated advisory for moderate to strong Santa Ana winds this weekend.

"The Santa Ana winds will initially begin across the mountains tonight and then surface into the inland valleys early Saturday morning," the National Weather Service advised Dec. 13.

"A secondary peak will bring the strongest winds to the Riverside and San Diego county mountains and foothills Saturday night and Sunday morning. These strong winds . . . combined with low humidities of less than 15 percent . . . will elevate the wildfire danger."

The red flag warning area includes the Mountain Top, Front Country and San Jacinto ranger districts of the San Bernardino National Forest, and the rest of the mountains on both sides of the San Gorgonio Pass.

Northeast winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour will be possible, with gusts up to 65 mph in some locations, including through and below favored passes and canyons, the Weather Service advised.
