Injured Hiker Assisted on Marion Mountain Trail North of Pine Cove

Members of the Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit were called out Saturday afternoon and began a search of the area. The hiker was located and escorted to safety Saturday night.

Volunteers and deputies assisted an injured hiker Saturday in the area of the Marion Mountain Trail north of Pine Cove in the San Jacinto Mountains, a sheriff's sergeant said.

Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department responded about 4 p.m. Saturday to a trailhead area off Highway 243, after receiving information that a hiker had been injured on the trail, according to Sgt. Robert Himmelberg of the sheriff's Hemet Station.

Members of the Riverside County Mountain Rescue Unit were called out and began a search of the area, Himmelberg said.

The hiker was located and escorted to safety. She was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Himmelberg said.
