The Bad News about the Good News Club

The truth about the Good News Club popping up at Inland Empire elementary schools.

The Good News Club is popping up at public elementary schools all over the Inland Empire.

What is the Good News Club? On paper it is a Bible Study group. It is sponsored by the Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF).

They are in hundreds of thousands of schools across the nation. The CEF is a fundamentalist Christian Organization. They interpret the Bible literally. If you do not adhere to their specific brand of Christianity you are not truly saved. The purpose of The Good News club is to evangelize.

They are using public schools to do this. Public school is supposed to be a secular environment, free from religious indoctrination of any kind. Kids can not yet understand an afterschool activity, taking place on school grounds is not still school. What they learn at school is true. It does not take much of a leap for them to believe everything they hear at the Good News Club because it is happening at school, and that’s what the Good News Club is hoping for.

Although the flyer's handed out will say the school does not support or sponsor the club, in essence they are. No public school should have any religious groups present for after school programs. In fact no groups not directly sponsored by the school should be allowed on school property. The flyer's are passed out during school hours, yet another illusion to this being a school sponsored event.

The true problem here is the message of the Good News Club. There is no good news at all. If parents truly knew what they were teaching, they would not want their children to attend. Lesson after lesson teaches kids they are sinners, destined for hell, if they are not saved by the Good News.

Lesson after lesson teaches blind obedience to the authority of the church and God.
Some lessons endorse the Genocide of the enemies of God, or non-believers. Such lessons include The Amalekites, the battle of Jericho, and how Israel has suffered by not following God's command to get rid of the Caananites.

The Good News Club is intent on evangelizing children. CEF believes this can only be done by persuading children through shame and terror of their “need for salvation", the GNC mentions the “Second Commandment” to love one’s neighbor as themselves just once, and includes no references to the Golden Rule at all. They teach children from pre-school age to 12 that they “deserve to die” and go to hell because they were born with a sinful nature. Every lesson mentions the "Dark Heart" that all kids have, unless they are saved. This is despicable. They endorse the Bible as a literal and infallible word of God, teach that conversion to their own version of Christianity is the only path to
salvation, while other types of Christians are not actually Christian, and they heavily emphasize the role of Satan in everyday life.

They teach kids to go out and recruit other kids on the playground to come to the club after school. They use tricks and gimmicks to lure kids into the club like food and prizes. They create division within the schools and communities they invade. The long term goal of this club is simple, to undermine the public school system which they see as an affront to Christianity.

They have large, powerful national organizations behind them like the Alliance Defense Fund, and The Liberty Counsel, among others. These group works nationally to blur the lines between the separation of church and state.

I have no problem with Bible study but it needs to be kept at home and/or with your desired church/religion not at public school. School districts that don't want the Good News Club on campus are unable to fight them. The CEF has deep pockets, the school districts do not.

If you receive a flyer from this group, I hope you do as I did and throw it in the trash, or get angry! Join me in stopping them from coming onto to public schools. Show people what this group really is, The Bad News Club. I do not want my children or their classmates believing they are sinners, destined for hell, and born with a dark heart.

Kids are beautiful. Kids are amazing. It is time to set them off in this world believing they are worthy, capable, awesome, incredible, and marvelous!

Well Larissa I was unaware that you and Ari were one in the same. The “sir” I used was more of a rhetorical use but whatever, and forgive me for assuming that a person with a man’s name was a man. I have heard of a Boy Named Sue but I rarely come across one.
Do you have anything to bring to the conversation other than the Giants? (See what I did there? Come on that’s funny and you know it.)
Jolly Roger February 13, 2013 at 06:26 pm
What Neely! The bible contradicts itself?! Impossible is say. For the bible tells me it doesn’t contradict itself so therefore it cannot. duh...
Jolly Rogette February 13, 2013 at 06:50 pm
Totally funny, Jolly. Nope, I don't have much to contribute to this conversation, nor my real name either. Thought Ari was a girl's name for I know one, but now that I think about it it does sound more like Islamic terrorist. Was just enjoying the interplay of testosterone spraying between you and Gary. I never get involved with 1st amendment wars, and unfortunately, that's all this boils down to. Why argue religion with those who probably enjoyed every Harry Potter movie? But please, carry on. Not much else going on but crispy critter commentary.
Jolly Roger February 13, 2013 at 06:57 pm
Who exactly has nothing better to do than troll the Patch again?...
Kettle February 13, 2013 at 07:34 pm
I resemble that remark, Pot.
Jolly Roger February 13, 2013 at 07:43 pm
Interesting... You to great lengths to bring nothing to the discussion. So what is your stance on the topic?
Jolly Rogette the 2nd February 13, 2013 at 08:43 pm
I am not religious. I have never been religious. I think there probably was some entity/entities that visited Earth at some point in our history, and that is where the entire notion of "God" came from. I think some very smart men hijacked the story and created an empire of power called religion. The Vatican is the richest entity on Earth, while millions starve every day. Christians who complain about a war on Christmas celebrate their saviors birth by erecting and decorating a tree, completely ignoring the fact that the Bible itself recorded that Jesus chided the pagans for the same heathen practice. Of all the infinite ways to honor the birth of one's "savior", today's Christians choose en masse to pick something they KNOW Jesus announced his displeasure about. Happy Birthday, Lord, know you said not to have a tree, but its just soooo pretty. Got you a big screen from Walmart under it, go look. You want my stance on this topic? I think the concept of salvation and reward "after death" is the most brilliant marketing strategy ever conceived to sell one's product, if it were not for the fact that some of those buying it have nuclear weapons. This club is bad news.

...and what you will find in corinthians i and ii are the love letters between paul and timothy... yea, they were gay...
Libi Uremovic February 13, 2013 at 09:18 pm
and now we know that there's other parts of the world, not just the middle east...
if the ark story were true - it would have flooded in asia too...asia was a much more advanced culture than the middle east with lots of written documents still available...no flood ...

You mean to say that Newton wasn't a scientist who believed that God created the world? His motivation for embarking on writing the Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica was to demonstrate to the world the order in the universe with God as its creator, in his own words: "When I wrote my treatise about our Systeme I had an eye upon such Principles as might work with considering men for the beliefe of a Deity and nothing can rejoyce me more then to find it usefull for that purpose."
Not only was he a brilliant mathematician and the founder of modern Physics, he was also considered an erudite theologian.

If any event takes place on a school campus, funded with taxpayer dollars, IT IS A SCHOOL EVENT!!!! Religion and "GODS WORDS" have no place on school property, period!!! You have your "churches" and your homes to instill fear, hate, bigotry and "GODS WORDS" into the innocent minds of children..
stockdog February 20, 2013 at 06:22 pm
Kudos to you, Tonya. All, check out this documentary, which YouTube may soon pull down due to a bogus claim from “Mr. Bob” of the Good News Club in Raleigh NC:

The schools we're talking about are public schools not private schools. If you want religion taught to your kid then send them to church or a private Christian school. My tax dollars are not to be used for religious purposes. If you are a teacher in the public school system then you should be well aware of that fact and your future employment with the school district should be reconsidered. Perhaps that cowpaddy sitting on your shoulders is what's responsible for your out of touch with reality belief system. You are supposed to be an educator, not a missionary!!!!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 07:32 pm
Thank You Tanya, you are absolutely right and spot on to what many of us think about this issue!! We don't send our kids to Christian schools to be taught about a book that has to interpreted by men who determine what a "Biblical Truth" is!!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 07:34 pm
And I don't want somebody else's kid telling my kid about some meeting taking place after school..
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:03 pm
No they are not, "they" are spreading "mans" "Word of God" because the book they teach from was written by men and has to be interpreted by men today, that is factually correct and by most definitions is what the word "TRUTH" means!!! If I fit your definition of an atheist then so be it!@ By the way, the word Atheist isn't a "dirty" word meant to shame and humiliate those who choose to deal with reality and disagree with your belief system!!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:26 pm
"Biblical Truths"??? What is that and why is there a different truth for the bible than the regular everday, factually based, reality driven "TRUTH"???? Simply send your kids to church or invite the Sunshine Club over to your house to enlighten your kids but the taxpayer funded schools, built by our "government" should not be used for ANY religious activities.. The "Constitution" is being violated!!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:43 pm
Why is your definition of TRUTH different?? Truth has to include evidentiary proof, factually correct information and a dose of REALITY!!! By the way, your lack of shame is obvious to us earthlings and your attempts at humiliating Neely and Tonya is why we don't want your SUNSHINE CLUB poisoning children's minds on taxpayer property!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:54 pm
Gays and Lesbians are hold religious meetings on school property??? REALLY???
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:57 pm
Yes, give us an intelligent answer!!!
steve February 20, 2013 at 09:58 pm
Well stated lotus
steve February 21, 2013 at 04:16 am
Dude, what exactly are you trying to say because that sounds like someone on an acid trip!!!
steve February 21, 2013 at 04:24 am
Not jealous just baffled and disgusted!!! By the way I thought you people believed in only one God??
steve February 21, 2013 at 04:30 am
ITS UNCONSTITUTIONAL TO HOLD RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES ON PUBLIC FUNDED PROPERTY, PERIOD, END OF YOUR ARGUMENT!!!!!
steve February 28, 2013 at 02:20 pm
Bobby is an idiot and a shining example of why he and his kind should never be allowed to brainwash innocent children on government owned property. What a hypocrite and bigot you are BOBBY!!!
steve February 28, 2013 at 02:27 pm
No, INTELLIGENCE is finally taking control of people in this country through education. People like Bobby are proof of the hypocrisy of religion and exactly why it has no place on public property!!!
steve February 28, 2013 at 02:36 pm
Washy, I agree with you most of the time but on this one I do not. Separation of Church from State means just that. Church can not influence or control the state, that's why our ancestors left England to escape the heavy hand of the church..
steve March 8, 2013 at 09:58 pm
Since when do "they hold church services every Sunday at most schools"??? They don't and that's why you've never heard any complaints!!!
steve March 8, 2013 at 10:13 pm
Love it!!! But don't expect a logical response!!!
steve March 8, 2013 at 10:25 pm
After reading further comments I see you didn't get the logical response you asked for. They all bow out when asked or they resort to distracting tactics like insulting, humiliation and the never ending "but god says in the bible" thing they do!!

I find it interesting the RG was all over the State of the City luncheon but not interested inRead More printing the questions and issues raised by the Mayor's unsubstantiated claims. We should stop paying any attention to the RG if they aren't interested in what's really happening in Beaumont. I don't subscribe to the RG but it is still delivered to my house every week. Does anyone know how to stop the delivery? I could just pick it up each week and throw it in the trash but then their circulation won't be accurately represented to their advertisers. I'm going to start asking local business to stop advertising in the RG.
Ken June 17, 2013 at 11:47 am
Great idea Lloyd..They dont deliver to the old neighborhoods I guess. I generally pay the 50 centsRead More to see what they DIDNT print.

Have you tried calling them and asking them to not throw trash in your driveway each Friday.

UPDATE on CV (nickname)...a tumor protruding from his right eye was removed yesterday - he now canRead More close the eye completely which, coupled with a fly mask, will keep the flies from laying eggs in his eye (a very nasty thing indeed). He has settled in with a gentle geriatric horse for a companion and is eating well (his weight was not an issue before - he obviously was fed decently). His club hoof causes him quite a lot of discomfort, but he manages to hobble around. A visit from the farrier is nextin line, to see if his discomfort can be aleviated. I don't believe he will ever be a riding horse, but he casts a nice shadow and is gentle and kind to be around. There is a peacefulness that eminates from his very being...

Niki- yes the plans have been updated to allow Banning and Yucaipa to share in the use of the newRead More ponds. It is an inter-agency plan that is beneficial to everyone. Why you consider having other entities share this project, which bonds us all together: they are paying to help build the new area so we, as ratepayers aren't hit with the whole bill, and we are going to finally get some recycled water into use from Yucaipa, Banning gets new wells, and no matter what- we have ultimate control over the use at all times- how that is a horror story I can't figure out. These plans were in the works for years, it was no secret. Its now being finalized by the board- as the details are now ironed out. The only horror story I see happening is how Beaumont refuses to make an agreement with the district to utilize their recycled water- and its not all the water district's fault like you think. Beaumont can't build unless they find some new sources of water. One of the reasons they pulled out is once they update their wastewater facility- they don't plan on wasting that recycled water just on landscaping . They are going to dump it into the basin itself for the water credit. Beaumont residents have no clue that their drinking water will eventually be more wastewater than water coming down the mountain. Sorry- but I think Fraser is doing a great job. If he hadn't got in there, the district would belong to Beaumont, who would take all the water they want regardless of impact studies, and siphon off all the money for their own uses. Guess you missed their lawsuit in the courts- the courts laughed them out. Beaumont is broke. The water district is financially sound.
Niki Magee June 13, 2013 at 01:54 pm
Ben, it is unfortunate you are the victim of such serious misinformation. I thought I knew everyoneRead More at last night's BCVWD meeting. Who were you?
Claire Frémont June 15, 2013 at 09:59 am
I'm curious, Niki, what misinformation are you speaking of concerning Ben's comment? He appears toRead More be stating information that I've read about also. Beaumont did sue to try and take over the water district, they did get a cease and desist order to stop dumping their wastewater into the aquifer, and have pulled out of all negotiations with the district to supply them with recycled water. The district has made the arrangements instead with Yucaipa to take their water, with the hopes that someday Beaumont will come around. All these things are in agendas and downloads available to the public, which part are you disputing?
