Keeping it Cool: Locals Know Big Falls is Place to Chill

Afternoon highs in the Pass area were in the 90s, but it was at least 10 degrees cooler Monday afternoon at Big Falls in Mill Creek Canyon.

Emily Barton, 17, of Calimesa, and Morgan Kopitsky, 17, of Yucaipa, walked Monday up to the base of Big Falls in Mill Creek Canyon to "get out of the house," and to enjoy cooler conditions next to vertical sections of the cataract.

Other young men and women from Mentone, Colton, and Santa Ana joined them, as well as families further down the canyon just east of Forest Falls.

"It's a tad cooler up here," Barton said, raising her voice above the sound of the rushing water. "Just a tad."
