Two Teen Fighters with Pass Boxing Club to Compete in Victorville

Two teenagers with the recently-formed Pass Boxing Club are scheduled to compete Saturday Sept. 28 at an event in Victorville.

Here's an announcement from the club:

Pass Boxing Club's Coach Robert Rios and Coach Leo De Lara are proud to announce that some of their own youth members will be competing this Saturday September 28th @ 1 pm with UTB & Olveras Boxing Show at Victorville Police Station, 14200 Amargosa Rd., Victorville.

Pass youth members competing are Bobby Galarza of Beaumont and Alfonso Rodriguez also of Beaumont. Ronnie Gomez of Beaumont was slated to compete but sustained a knee injury unrelated to boxing but we so look forward to seeing him compete in the near future.

Coach Robert Rios and Coach Leo De Lara who are carrying on the legacy of Russell Rodriguez from Indio, a Trainer who back in the '70s started Pass Boxing Club in Banning to local youths as a way of helping kids stay out of trouble and lower crime in the area while teaching values of hard work, competition, and the value of education while gaining self confidence and discipline.

Mr. Rodriguez who has long passed but his legacy lives on with these kids.  Coaches Rios, and De Lara maintain the same values to their youth to this day as all kids must maintain  "C" average grades at school and must always be respectful and uphold themselves as Gentlemen, and Ladies. One member who has been dearly missed and would like to see him come back is Ricky "The Heart" Rodriguez, a young man with a heart who is going places.

Pass Boxing Club, since it's recent beginnings started with no boxing gloves, no gym, no home and just four kids has grown to 20 plus kids today with the help of donations, and support from parents, community members, and leaders.

Abel and Lisa Martinez of Empire Towing in Beaumont has been very generous with T-Shirt and donations and we would like to give them a very special Thank You.

Pass Boxing Club is a work in progress and still need more boxing gloves and head gear (USA ABF approved label) for their growing members so if you would like to help out with a tax deductible donation please contact Robert Rios (951) 973-9839 or Leo De Lara (951) 337-7200.
