Two More Beaumont High Athletes Earn College Scholarships

Volleyball standout Lindsay Ritchie and wide receiver Shane Waldron will continue their athletic careers at four-year universities.

Beaumont High School student-athletes Lindsay Ritchie and Shane Waldron have signed National Letters of Intent or made commitments to continue their playing careers at the university level.

Ritchie accepted a full volleyball scholarship to Fordham University, an NCAA Division I school in New York.

A right-side hitter, Ritchie was a first-team all-Mountain Pass League selection after leading the Cougars in kills and blocks this past fall, and was a three-year letter winner at Beaumont.

She also played for the Rancho Valley Volleyball Club, and has earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.68. Lindsay was selected as Beaumont High School’s female scholar-athlete of the year for the CIF-SS Academic Awards program.

 Waldron, a senior wide receiver, has committed to play football at Allegheny College, an NCAA Division III college in Pennsylvania.

This season, Waldron caught 36 passes for 443 yards and one touchdown, in helping to lead the Cougars to the Mountain Pass League co-championship.

He has compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.02, earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and helped to coordinate fundraisers for Carol’s Kitchen, a Pass area-based organization that provides meals for community members in need.

Amanda Hendey – Wrestling

Senior wrestler Amanda Hendey has signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for Oklahoma City University. Amanda recently won the USA Wrestling National Folkstyle championship in Oklahoma, and is a two-time CIF-State girls’ wrestling champion, and three-time CIF southern regional champion. This past weekend, Amanda placed 2nd in the 59 kg/130 lb. division of the ASICS U.S. Open, earning a place on the USA national team. She will represent the USA at the PanAm Games in Colombia in May.

 Jayme Tickemyer – Softball

Senior infielder Jayme Tickemyer has signed a national letter of intent to play softball with Sonoma State University. Jayme will be a four-year letter winner at BHS, having primarily played third base and shortstop during her career. She hit .449 with 27 runs scored and 14 runs batted in during her junior season, earning 1st team all-Mountain Pass League honors.

Lauren Hernandez – Softball

Senior outfielder Lauren Hernandez has received and signed a scholarship offer to play softball with Vanguard University. Lauren hit .348 as a junior, while scoring 20 runs and driving in 10, earning 2nd team all-Mountain Pass League honors. She also had a 1.000 fielding percentage with five assists from the outfield.

Deana Mendoza – Water Polo

Senior utility player Deana Mendoza has received and signed a scholarship offer to play water polo at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. Deana was named to the all-Inland Valley League 1st team in water polo as a junior. She scored 108 goals to go along with 27 assists, and had 64 steals. Additionally, Deana was named the Mountain Pass League MVP in girls’ swimming last season, winning MPL championships in the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. She also swam legs in the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays which won MPL titles.

Stephanie Tickemyer – Softball

Sophomore infielder Stephanie Tickemyer has verbally committed to receive a scholarship to play softball for UC Riverside. As a freshman, Stephanie batted .397 with 20 runs scored and 24 runs batted in, while playing the middle infield positions for the Lady Cougars. As a result, she was named to the 1st team all-Mountain Pass League. Stephanie also earned 1st team all-MPL in girls’ cross country this fall, helping to lead BHS to the MPL championship.
