Beaumont All Stars qualify for State Championships in softball, Sectionals in baseball

The Fourth of July weekend has turned out to be a memorable one for youth sports in Beaumont.

Late Saturday evening, a pair of teams – one in softball and the other in baseball - advanced in high-profile tournaments.

In Beaumont, the Beaumont 12-and-under All Stars qualified for the American Softball Association (ASA) All Star State Championships in Lancaster in two weeks.

Beaumont did so by registering a 7-1 win over Valley Wide (Hemet) during Friday’s round of the ASA Eastern “C” District Championships at Noble Creek Park. With two wins on Sunday the team will play for the “C” District title later that day.

And in baseball action in Redlands, the Beaumont PONY Division All Stars won a spot in the PONY Sectionals next week.

Beaumont advanced with Saturday’s 14-4 victory over High Country in the semifinals of the PONY District Tournament. On Sunday, Beaumont will play for the District title against the winner of Sunday’s early game between Palm Desert and Rialto.

Beaumont will open today with an 11 a.m. game against Jurupa. Win or lose, a 1 p.m. game will follow. Then the title game will be played at 3 p.m.

The win over Valley Wide featured a home run by Hailey DeLongchamp, who went 4 for 4 at the plate. Johanna Fordham tripled and the team itself produced 13 hits.

“This is a big deal and it’s a huge deal for Beaumont,” assistant coach Kari Mendoza said. “We want to play well and we want to win. The
girls have worked very hard. It’s like it is all finally paying off.”

Earlier in the day Beaumont dropped a close one, 7-5 to Upland.

Baseball in Redlands

Beaumont will face Palm Desert or Rialto in Sunday’s 12:15 title game of the Pony District Tournament.

Beaumont posted wins over Palm Springs (3-1) and High Country (14-4) to reach the title game.

Jeremiah Bennett, Josh Torrance and Gilbert Juarez drove runs in against Palm Springs and Juarez and Robert Rodriguez shared the mound where they registered a one hitter.

Rodriguez homered in the win over High Country and Torrance struck out seven batters in three innings of relief. Bennett got the save.

“It’s the ultimate goal,” Beaumont coach Josh Torrance said. “Last year Beaumont was out in two games. So we are very excited about
getting this far.”
