Beaumont Grad Danielle Reed Accepts Scholarship to Compete in Oklahoma

The Mt. San Jacinto College standout will play at Bacone University, MSJC officials said.

Danielle Reed’s only goal after relocating from Georgia to Beaumont in 2008 was to continue both her education and basketball career at the collegiate level.

Reed made good on that when she played the past two seasons at Mt. San Jacinto College.

And Reed made sure this week that she will continue to meet that goal the next two seasons by accepting a scholarship from Bacone University in Muskogee, Oklahoma, MSJC officials said.

Reed was one of two MSJC women’s basketball players to sign scholarship papers. She was joined by Danielle Cooper, who will be moving on to Cal State San Marcos. Both Reed and Cooper were All Conference First Team selections.

"They both were tremendous leaders for our team," MSJC Coach Chris Mozga said. "They led by example and were our two hardest working players, to lead the state in any category takes a lot of dedication and they both showed that for the good of our team”  “Danielle Reed had a great two year career for us and I’m sure will be a success at Bacone and beyond.”

Reed helped MSJC to a pair of top three finishes in the Foothill Conference – a second place this past season and a third place finish the year before. During that stretch the Eagles won 23 of their 25 conference games and were 46-15 overall.

Reed was a three-year varsity starter at Groves High School in Savannah, Georgia, when her family relocated to California for the 2008-2009 school year. She had an immediate impact on Beaumont’s team and paced the Cougars to a playoff spot. That season she led Beaumont with 62 assists and 96 steals.

She excelled at MSJC. She completed her final season with the Eagles by leading the state with 7.3 assists a game and also averaged 9 points and 5.8 rebounds a game.

Cooper, who graduated from West Valley High School in Hemet, led the state in rebounding this past season averaging 13.4 a game. Cooper was also the team's leading scorer averaging 16.6 points a game.
