Fundraisers for Tynne Nichole Cheevers Planned 4/19-4/20 in Redlands, Yucaipa

The 28-year-old Beaumont High grad sustained severe injuries in a crash about 7:45 a.m. April 9 on Interstate 10 west of County Line Road, according to CHP Sgt. Ed Casillas and Cheevers' supporters.

Fundraisers are planned this week in Redlands and Yucaipa to help pay mounting medical costs for Beaumont High graduate Tynne Nichole Cheevers.

Cheevers sustained severe injuries in a crash about 7:45 a.m. April 9 on Interstate 10 west of County Line Road, according to CHP Sgt. Ed Casillas and her supporters.

She was taken to Loma Linda University Medical Center and treated for spine injuries, broken ribs, bruised lungs, a broken wrist, a skull fracture, and scalp lacerations that had to be closed with staples, her fiancé Josh Mailhot of Beaumont and a family friend said last week.

She has also undergone surgery in which a plate was inserted into her back, Mailhot said. Her condition "is constantly improving, now opens her eyes on command and even smiled for her brother Johnny," Mailhot said via email.

Tynne has auto insurance but she does not have medical insurance, and costs for her care at Loma Linda University Medical Center are growing. Her friend Melanee Dark has set up a donors' site at pledgie.com/campaigns/17125, while co-workers at Romano's in Redlands, where she works as a bartender, are collecting cash and planning fundraisers this week.

In Redlands, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday April 19, Eureka Burger at 345 Pearl Ave. #130 will donate 15 percent of their profits to Tynne and Josh, according to organizers.

In Yucaipa, starting at 6 p.m. Friday April 20, Whiskey Business Bar and Grill at 34536 Yucaipa Blvd. will have drink specials and raffle prizes to help raise money for Cheevers, according to organizers.

Every bit of support counts, Dark said.

"Events like these are not only tough emotionally but are really tough financially," Dark said in her Pledgie.com post. "Like so many, Tynne is without insurance so medical bills, transportation and lodging costs, the time that family has to take off of work to be with her and support her . . . all of these things add up and can become really burdensome."

Fliers for the Thursday and Friday events are attached to this report.
