Beaumont Wrestler Wins 1st Place

Cougars Junior Terrill Sidener won the 126-pound class at Canyon Springs High in Moreno Valley on Saturday Jan. 28, 2012, Beaumont Athletic Director Martin Du Sold said.

A Beaumont High wrestler won the 126-pound competition Saturday at a tournament in Moreno Valley.

Cougars Junior Terrill Sidener placed first in his weight class at Canyon Springs High on Jan. 28, Beaumont Athletic Director Martin Du Sold said.

"Facing some of the top wrestlers in California, Sidener made his mark as a CIF, master's, and state contender with his victory," Du Sold said Monday. "He helped Beaumont to an 11th-place finish at the Raul Huerta Memorial tournament, with over 40 teams participating."

In the semifinals, Sidener defeated top-seeded Mikey Knobaluch from state-power Clovis West, 7-3, Du Sold said. In the championship match, he defeated Bryce Martin from Bakersfield, 7-4.

Also, Alex Smith placed 6th in the 120-lb. weight class.

Beaumont wrestlers are getting ready this week for the Mountain Pass League finals, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday Feb. 4 at Hemet High School, Du Sold said.
