Beaumont School Board Member to Run for 42nd State Assembly District

Mark Orozco, 35, of Beaumont, announced his candidacy Wednesday for the newly-formed California State Assembly District 42.

A Beaumont school board member announced his intent Wednesday to run for the newly-formed California State Assembly District 42 in 2012.

Mark Orozco, 35, of Beaumont, is a teacher in Pomona and he has been on the Beaumont Unified School District board since December 2008, said his campaign manager, Xavier Sibaja.

District 42 primaries are in April 2012, Orozco said.

Orozco, a Democrat, said his campaign messages will be fighting education budget cuts at the state level, protecting programs for the elderly, supporting local businesses, and maintaining acceptable law enforcement levels in all District 42 communities.

The new District 42 overlaps part of current District 65, represented by Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley. Cook is completing his third term and will not be running for State Assembly in 2012, a spokesman for the California State Assembly clerk said Wednesday.

A pdf map of District 42 is attached to this report.

The new District 42 includes the communities of Cherry Valley, Beaumont, San Jacinto, Whitewater, Yucca Valley, Banning, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and Hemet in Riverside County, and Homestead Valley, Twentynine Palms, Morongo Valley, and Yucaipa in San Bernardino County.

Orozco is planning a $60-per-person fundraiser at the residence of a Beaumont local business owner on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.
