Orozco, a Democrat, said his campaign messages will be fighting education budget cuts at the state level, protecting programs for the elderly, supporting local businesses, and maintaining acceptable law enforcement levels in all District 42 communities.

The new District 42 overlaps part of current District 65, represented by Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley. Cook is completing his third term and will not be running for State Assembly in 2012, a spokesman for the California State Assembly clerk said Wednesday.
