Beaumont High Cougars Water Polo Team Seeks to Build on Success

Beaumont High finished last season as undefeated MPL champions - the school's first water polo title - and reached the CIF semifinals, the school's athletic director said.

Beaumont High opens the coming water polo season as the top-ranked boys team in a poll for California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 6, which includes 10 schools across Southern California, the Cougars' athletic director announced Thursday.

The Cougars open this season by hosting Palm Springs High, ranked #4 in CIF Division 5, at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 6, Beaumont Athletic Director Martin Dusold said.

Returning for the Cougars this year are Mountain Pass League MVP and 1st team all-CIF Brody Wood, 1st team all-CIF Landon Carr, 1st team MPL Chris Diercks, and 1st team MPL Bilal Walker, all seniors.

The Cougars' playoff run ended with an overtime loss in the CIF semifinal versus Malibu High, 13-10.

"Under the guidance of Coach Chris Carlson, they have made great strides in learning about the work ethic and commitment required in this grueling sport," Dusold said.

The program is in its fifth year of existence, Dusold said.
