Beaumont Candidate for 42nd Assembly District Plans Campaign Event Saturday

The event, billed as 'Veterans Supporting Mark Orozco for Assembly 2012,' is scheduled 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at Beaumont Women's Club, 306 E. 6th St.

A Beaumont school board member who is running for the recently-formed 42nd State Assembly District is planning a campaign event on Saturday.

The event, billed as 'Veterans Supporting Mark Orozco for Assembly 2012,' is scheduled 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 28 at , 306 E. 6th St.

Guest speakers at the event will include retired U.S. Navy Capt. Ray Quinto, World War II Army Pfc. Roman J. Dominguez, a Battle of the Bulge veteran and former prisoner of war, Michael Dahl Sr., father of , killed in action in Afghanistan, Gilbert Rojo, a Vietnam War veteran, and his son, Ricardo Rojo, an Iraq War veteran, according to organizers.

Orozco, a Democrat, is a Beaumont resident and a teacher in Pomona. He has been on the board since December 2008.

When he in August, Orozco said his campaign messages will be fighting education budget cuts at the state level, protecting programs for the elderly, supporting local businesses, and maintaining acceptable law enforcement levels in all District 42 communities.

The new District 42, formed in recent statewide redistricting, overlaps part of current District 65, represented by Assemblyman Paul Cook, R-Yucca Valley. Cook is completing his third term and will not be running for State Assembly in 2012.

The new District 42 includes the communities of Cherry Valley, Beaumont, San Jacinto, Whitewater, Banning, Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and Hemet in Riverside County, and Homestead Valley, Twentynine Palms, Yucca Valley, Morongo Valley, and Yucaipa in San Bernardino County.
