Banning Cheerleaders Win 3 Awards at Downey Competition: Nationals on 4/21

The Broncos varsity coed team won first place in their division, a Grand Champions award, and the Judges Award for supporting others, during competition Saturday in Downey, a Banning High booster said.

Banning Broncos Varsity Coed Cheerleaders took home three awards Saturday during a competition in Downey, including Grand Champions and 1st Place in their division, and Judges Award for supporting others, a cheer booster said.

"They competed at the Sharp Cheer Competition at Downey High School," Melanie Lara said Sunday. "They won first place in their division, Varsity Coed High School Teams. They won Grand Champions for the 3 Varsity Coed divisions . . . and the Judges Award which is a awarded for points which are accumulated from the team cheering for others, participation in special events, spectator participation and overall spirit."

The Broncos were among 11 varsity teams who competed for the Grand Champions Award, Lara said. There five times in the division in which the Broncos earned 1st Place. And there were 39 teams total at the competition, all of which were eligible for the Judges Award earned by the Broncos, Lara said.

Banning High cheerleaders last year at the Sharp International Las Vegas 2011 National Title Cheerleading Championship, and they're raising money to compete in Nevada again this year.

The Sharp Nationals are scheduled Saturday April 21 at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas, Lara said.
