Ruiz and Bono Mack on Presidential Debate

Candidates for 36th Congressional District sound off following last night's debate

On the heels of last night's first Presidential debate, the local Congressional candidates are letting thier views known.

Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs) praised the strong performance of Mitt Romney saying, "Governor Mitt Romney clearly demonstrated his deep understanding of our economy, which makes him uniquely qualified to lead our country during these challenging times. I am proud to call him a friend.

Unfortunately, President Obama was unable to articulate a clear path forward for America. President Obama has failed to keep his promise and fix the economy. Governor Romney will be a great President and put our country on the road to prosperity."

Challenger Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Coachella) didn't touch on the performance of the candidates, but says the topics themselves took center stage.

"Last night's debate was an important reminder of what's at stake in this election." Ruiz said via an email.  "140,000 people in our district rely on Medicare, and the Romney/Ryan plan to turn Medicare into a voucher is out of touch with the needs of our community."

The second of three presidential debates is scheduled for October 16, at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.
