Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet says he stands behind Mark Orozco for state assembly.

Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet announced Monday that he's endorsing Beaumont School Board Member Mark Orozco for state assembly.

"I'm supporting Mark because he will fight for good-paying jobs, protect education from deeper cuts, and invest in the middle class," said Pougnet.  "He understands our district's needs and he will advocate for economic development; public safety; protection of youth and seniors; and natural resources sustainability such as improved water quality, and adoption of energy efficient programs."

Palm Springs is part of the newly re-defined 42nd District, which also includes the cities of Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon and Cherry Valley.

"I am deeply honored by Mayor Pougnet's support," Orozco said.  "I take his trust as a challenge to achieve what I set myself to accomplish, this knowing that in the present political climate, consensus is hard to come by. However, I am determined to work with anyone in Sacramento to bring out more prosperity and quality of life to the 42nd District."
