Overnight Closures on WB Interstate 10: SR 111 to Banning Tuesday-Wednesday

The work is scheduled 8 p.m. Feb. 21 to 5 a.m. Feb. 22 with alternating lane closures on the westbound 10, Caltrans announced.

Coachella Valley motorists who are wary of traveling Interstate 10 since the major backup Sunday may want to avoid the San Gorgonio Pass late Tuesday and into Wednesday next week.

Overnight closures are planned for striping on the westbound 10, from State Route 111 east of Cabazon to East Ramsey Street in Banning, Caltrans announced Friday.

The work is scheduled from 8 p.m. Feb. 21 to 5 a.m. Feb. 22, Caltrans spokeswoman Michelle Profant said in a statement.

"A striping project will take place on the westbound I-10 in the Banning area beginning the evening of Tuesday, February, 21 through the early morning of Wednesday, February 22," Profant said.

"The work will be carried out at various locations with alternating lane closures. On- and off-ramps will also be alternately closed, but not consecutively."

Freeway striping projects do not involve pavement removal, so there is little to no chance of a repeat of the massive backup that trapped thousands of motorists between Banning and Palm Springs on Sunday Feb. 12.
