New Banning, Beaumont Congressman Ruiz Named 'Most Likely to Succeed'

The San Gorgonio Pass' newest congressman, Rep. Raul Ruiz, has been named the "most likely to succeed" among the freshman class of representatives by a major political website.

The website Politico cites Ruiz's hectic schedule as a doctor and community advocate as proof that he'll likely hit the ground running and stand out amongst the 84 "rookies" sworn into office Thursday.

"In fact, the average three-day workweek of the Hill will probably seem like a vacation for Ruiz," a Politico article reads.  "Before he ran for Congress, the doctor was running a mentorship program, working in an ER, opening health clinics and running health education seminars for poorer communities."

Ruiz told the website in November that he wants to work with everyone to get things done: "I'm very committed to problem solving," he said.

Politico believes Ruiz will be a Democratic voice on immigration issues, and that we'll be seeing his name in national headlines in the coming year.

"Expect him to be an outspoken and important voice for the party on immigration issues," the article says.

The article also named a Republican "most likely to succeed"-- Rep. Tom Cotton from Arkansas.

The only other "awards" handed out were for: Most experienced, most likely to be a leadership favorite, most likely to be a cable favorite, and just happy to be here.  Read the full report on Politico here.

The 40-year-old emergency room physician beat Republican Mary Bono Mack in November to represent the redrawn 36th Congressional District, which spans from the San Gorgonio Pass, through the Coachella Valley and down to Hemet and San Jacinto.
