Museum Geologist to Lead Field Trip: 'Cajon Pass: Faults, Fossils, and Fun'

The San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands is offering a geology-focused field trip to the Cajon Pass on Jan. 26.

"Cajon Pass: Faults, Fossils, and Fun" will examine the San Andreas fault system and 70 million years of rocks and fossils with Kathleen Springer, the museum's senior curator of geological sciences, according to museum officials.

A lecture by Springer, originally scheduled Jan. 20, has been cancelled, museum officials announced Friday.

"The field trip will take place as scheduled," museum officials said. "Springer will incorporate information from the planned lecture into discussions during the excursion."

The cost for the field trip is $60 per person for Museum Association members and $70 per person for non-members. Participants will be asked to meet at 7:30 a.m. at the museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, for an 8 a.m. departure.

Reservations are required. The fee includes round-trip transportation to the Pass, morning coffee, lunch, water, and light snacks, museum officials said. The trip includes some strenuous hiking, over steep, uneven terrain.
