Meeting Scheduled to Address Council Vacancy in Wake of Botts' Resignation

A special meeting of the Banning city council has been scheduled Oct. 15 to address to filling the vacancy left by former Mayor Pro Tem Bob Botts, who abruptly resigned near the end of Tuesday night's council meeting.

"| hereby resign as an elected member of the Banning City Council effective October 9, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.," Botts said in a resignation letter addressed to City Clerk Marie Calderon and copied to Mayor Debbie Franklin, City Manager Andy Takata, and City Attorney David Aleshire.

The special meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 15 in council chambers at 99 E. Ramsey St., according to a notice distributed Wednesday by Calderon.

Botts' resignation came just a day after a city spokesman announced Banning chief of police Leonard Purvis went on voluntary paid leave effective Saturday Oct. 5.
