Kool & the Gang to Celebrate Pop-Funk in Beaumont's Summer Concert Series

Roots for the current band include hits 'Jungle Boogie,' 'Hollywood Swinging,' 'Ladies' Night,' 'Celebration,' and 'Get Down on It.'

The 2012 version of pop-funk soul legends Kool & the Gang are billed to perform this summer in Beaumont.

The band's July 11 performance date was announced at Tuesday night's Beaumont council meeting.

Kool & the Gang claims beginnings in 1950s Jersey City, and they evolved through the '60s and '70s to record chart-topping dance music that remains a touchstone for generations around the world.

Roots for the current edition of the band include hits such as "Jungle Boogie," "Hollywood Swinging," "Ladies' Night," "Celebration," and "Get Down on It."

The Basix and Starship with Mickey Thomas will perform July 4 in Beaumont to open the city's summer concert series.

Also performing in Beaumont this summer will be Taylor Dayne on July 18, and Night Ranger on Aug. 1, city officials said.

Rude Boy performs Aug. 8, presented by the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce.
