Goodbye, San Gorgonio Inn Sign
The iconic roadside sign of the San Gorgonio Inn, a 'Googie'-style dating from the 1950s, was taken down Wednesday. The Inn itself first opened in the 1880s and was demolished in April.
The iconic Googie-style San Gorgonio Inn sign that has stood by the roadside for at least 60 years was packed up Wednesday to be hauled away to a city yard for safekeeping.
The sign dated from the 1950s and was all that remained of the , which stood for more than 100 years before it was torn down in April.
The sign didn't go without a fight. Workers from Signs by Quiel Bros. said they had a tough time with the old-fashioned square bolts that held the sign to its longtime posts, and they wound up having to cut them all to take it down.
