ELECTIONS UPDATE: Emmerson Defeats O'Donnell in 23rd State Senate

Update 11:09 a.m. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, incumbent State Sen. Bill Emmerson has defeated challenger Melissa Ruth O'Donnell of Highland in the redrawn 23rd District, according to final unofficial results Wednesday morning.

Emmerson, R-Hemet, finished with 126,854 votes or 57.1 percent, and O'Donnell, D-Highland, finished with 95,165 votes or 42.9 percent, according to the registrars of San Bernardino and Riverside counties, and the Secretary of State.

The redrawn 23rd State Senate District includes Redlands, Loma Linda, Mentone, Yucaipa, Highland and several San Gorgonio Pass communities.

Posted 12:19 a.m. Incumbent State Sen. Bill Emmerson was leading challenger Melissa Ruth O'Donnell of Highland in the redrawn 23rd District, according to unofficial results early Wednesday.

Emmerson, R-Hemet, and newcomer O'Donnell, D-Highland, were running to represent the redrawn 23rd State Senate District, which includes Redlands, Loma Linda, Mentone, Yucaipa, Highland and several San Gorgonio Pass communities.

With 41 percent of precincts reporting, Emmerson led with 91,723 votes, 57.9 percent, and O'Donnell had 66,596 votes, 42.1 percent, according to the Secreatry of State.
