Vote totals began rolling in Tuesday night and early Wednesday in the presidential primary election which also had issues and candidates on the ballot for which locals could vote.

Besides casting votes for presidential choices, Pass voters weighed in on candidates of some non-partisan races such as U. S. senator, U.S. Congressional representative, state Assembly member, Riverside County Superior Court Judge and Riverside County Board of Education members.

Proposition 28 and proposition 29 were also two hot-button issues in the election.  If passed, Prop 28 would limit the amount of time state legislators can serve in office from 14 years to 12 years and prop 29 would add a $1-per-pack tax on cigarettes and other equivalent tobacco products.

On election day, Banning-Beaumont Patch stopped by one polling location at the First Assembly of God church on Beaumont Ave., which was hosting two precincts: 54029 and 54032.

By 6 p.m., that location had seen several hundred voters come through the doors.  One of those was first-time voter 19-year-old Audrey Miller.

Miller said she came out to vote because she wanted to make sure she got her vote in for proposition 29-- to which she voted yes.

"I know cigarettes kill and cause cancer and I'd like to see money go to fight that," she said.

Though Miller wanted to be sure to vote-- she didn't want to vote on issues to which she didn't feel informed, so she said she abstained from voting for local politicians.
