Closures Friday for Beaumont Stage of 28th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic

City officials recommend watching the circuit road races Friday March 23 at the Civic Center, where the events start and finish, or at local businesses along the race route.

City of Beaumont and bike race officials are gearing up for the Beaumont stage of the 28th Annual Redlands Bicycle Classic on Friday.

Organizers with the city also encourage bike race enthusiasts to check out along .

"There are various shopping centers located on both 6th Street, Beaumont Ave and Oak Valley Parkway," city officials said. "These locations have plenty of parking and space to sit back and view the riders flying by, between laps you could even browse the local shops."

The Beaumont stage of the Redlands Bicycle Classic features three separate races through Beaumont and Cherry Valley:

- Handcycling race for disabled athletes, scheduled start at 7:45 a.m.

- Men's race, scheduled start at 9:15 a.m., consists of 5 laps.

- Women's race, scheduled start at 9:30 a.m., consists of 3 laps.

All race events start and finish at Beaumont Civic Center, 550 E. 6th St.

The circuit route in Beaumont is identical to last year, Race Director Eric Reiser said. It covers 24.1 miles and includes climbs and descents in and near Bogart Park.

Men will ride 5 laps of the circuit to total 120.5 miles, and women will ride 3 laps to total 72.3 miles.

The city of Beaumont has released the following details about closures during the race events:

"There will be rolling road closures in which vehicles will be required to pull over when the riders are coming by and then will be allowed to go about their business.

"The best way to get through the heart of downtown Beaumont will be via 5th Street.

"Due to safety and traffic concerns, there will be a few streets that will be closed for the duration of the race. Detours will be in place for these roads.

Oak Valley Parkway

  • Between Highland Springs & Starlight - closed
  • Between Palm Avenue & Starlight - westbound lane closed, eastbound lane will be divided for 2-way traffic

Highland Springs

  • Between Brookside Ave & 8th Street - closed

Palm Avenue

  • Between Oak Valley Parkway & 6th Street - southbound lane closed w/ no parking, northbound lane open, cross traffic allowed

Beaumont Avenue

  • Between 6th Street & Brookside - intermittent closures
  • Intersection of 6th Street & Beaumont Avenue - closed, traffic will be diverted

6th Street

  • Between Palm Avenue & Beaumont Avenue - closed

Orange Avenue

  • Between 6th St & 8th Street - closed

Magnolia Avenue

  • Between 6th St & 8th Street - closed
