Caltrans District 8 Director to Take Part in Forum on Massive I-10 Pass Backup

Raymond W. Wolfe is expected to provide an update on the investigation into a massive traffic backup on Interstate 10 that stretched from Banning to Palm Springs, delaying thousands of motorists for hours.

Caltrans District 8 Director Raymond W. Wolfe will take part in a public forum  next month addressing the massive backup earlier this month that stretched from Banning to Palm Springs.

Assemblymen Brian Nestande, R-Palm Desert, and Manuel Perez, D-Coachella, will host the Thursday, March 8 forum from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rancho Mirage Public Library, 71100 Highway 111.

The forum will include representatives from the California Highway Patrol, according to Nestande and Perez.

Wolfe, who has already for the , will be "addressing the public on the current investigation and what measures are being taken to ensure this type of situation does not occur in the future on any state highways in Riverside and San Bernardino area," according to a news release.

Wolfe and representatives of the CHP have also been invited to appear Tuesday Feb. 28 before the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in Riverside.

Night lane and ramp closures on westbound Interstate 10 in Banning are planned Tuesday night through early Wednesday this week for more pavement rehab work, weather permitting.

The slab replacement and grooving project is in the same area where and lane closures resulted in the 10-hour, 20-mile backup into on Sunday Feb. 12.
