Cabazon Water District Seeks Public Input on Plan for Parks in Watershed

Next meeting of the Cabazon Water District Board is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday June 21, at James A. Venable Community Center, 50390 Carmen Ave., Cabazon.

Some Cabazon residents were vocal during a barbecue and community meeting hosted Sunday in Jensen Canyon by the Cabazon Water District, according to people who attended.

The event was held in part to gauge residents' feelings about creating a nature park in the mountains south of Cabazon.

The Cabazon Water District is applying for grant money to pay for day hiking and horseback riding trails, picnic areas, a convenience store, and an interpretive center to celebrate the town's Old West heritage, according to a spokesman for the water district.

The water district is also seeking public support to pursue a state grant for designing and building a community park with sports fields and playgrounds at the base of the mountains at Elm Street, according to the water district's Pipeline newsletter.
