Bono Mack Calls For Democratic Chairman's Resignation
The California Democratic Party Chairman likened some Repulicans to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels when asked about vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan's acceptance speech.
Rep. Mary Bono Mack on Monday called for the resignation of California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton for likening Republicans to Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
"No serious person would ever say such a thing," Bono Mack, R-Palm Springs, told The Press-Enterprise.
Burton, in Charlotte, N.C., for the Democratic National Convention, was asked today by San Francisco-based KCBS-AM (740) about claims that the acceptance speech by Republican vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan, R- Wisc. was filled with lies.

"They lie and they don't care if people think they lie," Burton responded. "As long as you lie, Joseph Goebbels, the big lie, you keep repeating it."
California Democratic Party Communications Director Tenoch Flores emailed a statement from Burton when asked for a response to Bono Mack's call for him to resign.

"To correct press reports of my recent comments about Republican lies, I did not call Republicans Nazis nor would I ever," Burton said in the statement. "In fact, I didn't even use the word.
"If Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan or the Republicans are insulted by my describing their campaign tactic as the big lie, I most humbly apologize to them or anyone who might have been offended by that comment."
Bono Mack will face off against challenger Dr. Raul Ruiz for the newly formed 36th Congressional District seat in November. The district includes the Pass area.
