"The decision by the California State Senate to approve a $68 billion high-speed rail project looks like a one-way ticket to bankruptcy to me. With aging schools, crumbling roads, police & fire layoffs and a huge state deficit, building a high-speed rail line – initially connecting Madera to Bakersfield – is both reckless and irresponsible. Backers of this boondoggle call themselves “visionaries.” Well, envision this: Stockton, California. Bankrupt. Struggling to provide even basic services. People moving out in droves. Is that the future of California we want?

The California High-Speed Rail lines would not travel into the Coachella Valley, with the closest stops being planned for Riverside and Murrieta.
