Banning, Beaumont State Senator to Help Oversee State Gov't

The local politician will now serve on the "Little Hoover Commission," a state oversight agency.

The following information was submitted by the office of Senator Bill Emmerson:

Senator Bill Emmerson (R-Redlands) announced [Wednesday] that he has been appointed by the Senate Rules Committee to serve on the Little Hoover Commission.

 “I’m deeply honored to have been appointed to serve on the Little Hoover Commission,” Senator Emmerson said.  “I strongly believe in the mission of the Commission as we should constantly be striving towards increasing efficiency and accountability in government, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely.”

Formally known as the Milton Marks “Little Hoover” Commission on California State Government Organization and Economy, the Commission is an independent state oversight agency that was created in 1962.  Its mission is to investigate state government operations and make recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature for improved efficiency, economy, and service in the executive branch of government as well as in various state departments.

The Commission is a bipartisan board comprised of five citizen members appointed by the Governor, four citizen members appointed by the Legislature, two Senators, and two Assemblymembers.

Senator Emmerson represents the 23rd State Senate District, which covers portions of Riverside, San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties.
