2012 Banning, Beaumont Election Guide: See Who Makes Headlines

The candidates, incumbents and issues that will be affecting the San Gorgonio Pass area, and Riverside County.

As we look ahead to November’s elections, Banning-Beaumont Patch is devoted to bring you the information you need about every race in town.

There are three local races of particular importance to Banning and Beaumont residents: the bid for the 42nd State Assembly District; the run for the 36th Congressional District; and the contest for the 23rd Senatorial District.

Below are the main candidates, as confirmed in the June 5 primary election.

Contrary to many other races in the county and state in which the field of candidates was narrowed in that election-- the races affecting this area remain unchanged, with the two original candidates still in place as they advanced to November by default, as there were no other candidates from which to narrow.

U.S. Representative, 36th Congressional District:

Incumbent Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (R-Palm Springs)

Dr. Raul Ruiz; a Democrat who serves as an emergency room doctor in the Coachella Valley.

State Senator, 23rd Senatorial District:

Incumbent Sen. Bill Emmerson (R-Hemet)

Melissa Ruth O'Donnell ; Democrat.

State Assembly, 42nd Assembly District:

Incumbent Brian Nestande (R-Palm Desert)

Mark Orozco; Democrat who currently sits on the board of trustees for the Beaumont Unified School District.

Hmmm...seems like a bit of "endorsing" going on here, expanding on Ruiz's & Orozco's current occupation/obligations, but not O'Donnell's? Why is it relevant?
