Woman Hospitalized, Whitewater Home Destroyed in Overnight Fire

Neighbors helped pull the woman from her house prior to firefighters' arrival, according to the fire department.

A woman was treated for smoke inhalation after her home was destroyed in an overnight fire in the Whitewater area, fire officials report.

The fire was first reported around 11:36 p.m. at a home in the 12700 Block Excelsior Street, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Hagemann said that the 2,000 square foot home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and that power lines were arcing in the area.

It took 21 firefighters about an hour to contain the blaze, she said.

"The residence was completely destroyed by fire," fire officials reported Tuesday afternoon.  "One adult female resident, who was transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance for minor smoke inhalation, will be displaced and American Red Cross was requested for assistance."
