A woman was treated for smoke inhalation after her home was destroyed in an overnight fire in the Whitewater area, fire officials report.

The fire was first reported around 11:36 p.m. at a home in the 12700 Block Excelsior Street, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokeswoman Jody Hagemann.

Hagemann said that the 2,000 square foot home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and that power lines were arcing in the area.

It took 21 firefighters about an hour to contain the blaze, she said.

"The residence was completely destroyed by fire," fire officials reported Tuesday afternoon.  "One adult female resident, who was transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance for minor smoke inhalation, will be displaced and American Red Cross was requested for assistance."

Neighbors helped pull the woman from her house prior to firefighters' arrival, according to the fire department.

The wind must blow fairly hard 340 days a year there, I don't get the attraction, but I'm sure some love it. Seems like a good place for the central jail. Thoughts to the lady displaced.

I live here in the neighborhood and I will tell you that it is windy a lot, but I wouldn't say it is windy 340 days a year. The attraction is the beautiful views, the fact that it is close to every recreational activity in the desert. It isn't crowded. No city street lights so star gazing is awesome. It is much warmer here in the winter than in Beaumont and only a few degrees warmer in the summer. btw the centeral jail or hub jail issue has already been fought and won. No jail of any kind will be going here.

Susan if you're happy there, I'm good. The views are great, but unless I get Stubby Canyon Cattle Ranch, up in that canyon, I'm not moving
