A 75-year-old woman died in a mobile home fire early Wednesday in Homeland, and two people were taken to a hospital with smoke inhalation, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 6:25 a.m. Jan. 1 in the 33900 block of Clinton Avenue, just north of State Route 74, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Two dozen firefighters responded and the first on scene "reported a double-wide mobile home, fully involved with fire," Hendrickson said.

"The fire was contained at approximately 6:54 a.m. and the structure was completely destroyed," Hendrickson said. "There is one confirmed fatality (75-year-old female). The cause of the fire is under investigation."

Two residents, a man and a woman, were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation, Hendrickson said in an update at 10:44 a.m.

Agencies that responded included American Medical Response, Cal Fire, City of Hemet FD, the Sheriff's Department, Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company.
