Volunteers + Helicopter Crew Respond to Lost Hiker Call Above Devil's Slide

The unidentified hiker was lost and called 911 for help shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, a sheriff's sergeant said. Searchers determined the hiker was near Wellman Divide, around 9,600 feet elevation, north of Idyllwild.

Volunteers and a helicopter crew rescued a hiker who got lost north of Idyllwild and called for help Saturday evening, a sheriff's sergeant said Sunday.

The unidentified hiker was lost and called 911 for help shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Robert Himmelberg of the sheriff's Hemet Station said.

Searchers determined the hiker was near Wellman Divide, around 9,600 feet elevation, above the Devil's Slide Trail and Humber Park.

"The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit and a Sheriff's Department helicopter responded and located the lost hiker," Himmelberg said in a statement. "The hiker was lifted into the helicopter and flown to safety. The hiker was uninjured and did not require medical attention."

Idyllwild is in the San Jacinto Mountains, south of the San Gorgonio Pass in Riverside County, Calif.
