VIDEO: Resident Who Lives Near Jail Asks Police About Inmates Released in Neighborhood
Banning-Beaumont Patch video by Guy McCarthy
A resident who lives near Smith Correctional asked police Tuesday night about inmates being released into the neighborhood, during a meeting with Banning Police Officers Association members at Russo's.
Paul Tucker of Banning, who said he lives south of the airport, asked why inmates are being released without bus tickets "to get out of this town."
Tucker said Smith Correctional, the county's largest jail, used to provide bus tickets for released inmates, but they are now released at the main gate at Porter and South Hargrave to walk out of Banning.
Banning police Cpl. Brandon Smith and Cpl. Joe Feola were among police union members who answered questions Jan. 7 at Russo's Italian Kitchen.
The BPOA is the union for all 24 sworn non-administration personnel who work for the Banning Police Department, said Smith, an elected representative of the Banning Police Officers Association.
