VIDEO, PICS: Fire in Beaumont Displaces Family of Six

The fire broke out Thursday evening at a home on Pennsylvania, just north of Sixth Street.

A fire at a Beaumont house has left a family of six without a home Thursday night.

The fire broke out around 4 p.m. at a house in the 700 block of Pennsylvania, just north of Sixth Street, according to officials on scene.

Cal Fire Battalion Chief Alex Gregg told Patch that the cause is unknown at this time, and that the house is uninhabitable due to the significant damage.

"We got on scene and had a working fire inside the structure, several people outside," Gregg said.  "Beaumont PD was here trying to assist."

"We made an aggressive interior attack and put the fire out in about 15 minutes, and now we're just in the over-hall stages," he told Patch shortly before 6 p.m.

Pennsylvania was closed down between Sixth Street and Eighth Street while crews mopped up the scene.  Gregg estimated that that would be going on until about 6:30 p.m.

Fire reports indicated that a total of 20 firefighters and six engines were assigned to fight the blaze.

The two adults and four children who lived in the home were being assisted by American Red Cross for shelter, clothing and food needs, according to Gregg.
