Vegetation Fire Damages Outbuildings, Garage Next to Vacant Home

A vegetation fire broke out Wednesday in Palm Desert and damaged two outbuildings and a garage next to a vacant home, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at 11:29 a.m. Jan. 1 in the 40600 block of Yucca Lane, Melody Hendrickson of Cal Fire-Riverside County said in a statement.

Six engine companies responded and the first personnel on scene reported "a vegetation fire between two structures - one fully involved outbuilding with exposures to a single family residence," Hendrickson said.

The fire was contained about 12:05 p.m. to two outbuildings, with minor damage to the exterior of the garage of an abandoned single story, single family residence, Hendrickson said.

No injuries were reported. Information about the cause was not immediately available.

Agencies that responded included Cal Fire, the California Highway Patrol and the Imperial Irrigation District.
