UPDATE: Second Woman Killed in Head-On Crash ID'd as Marine from Twentynine Palms Base

Update 8:20 pm. Coroner's officials have identified the second of two women who were killed Sunday night in a head-on collision on Highway 62 in the Morongo Valley area, and she was a Marine.

Amelia Miller, 23, of the U.S. Marine Corps, was based at the Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, coroner's officials said in an update Monday evening.

Posted 11:25 a.m. Two motorists were killed Sunday night in a head-on collision on Highway 62 in the Morongo Valley area, according to the San Bernardino County coroner.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 9:59 p.m. June 16 at North Star Trail and Highway 62, coroner's officials said in a statement. Both drivers were fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The deceased were identified as Niccole Holly, 31, of Palm Desert, and a 23-year-old woman from the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, coroner's officials said. Authorities were trying to contact family of the woman from the Marines base before releasing her name.

California Highway Patrol officers based in Joshua Tree were investigating, CHP representatives said Monday morning.
