Two people were hospitalized— one of them with major injuries— in a Wednesday morning crash in Beaumont, fire officials report.

The crash was reported just after 6 a.m., at the intersection of 8th Street/Wilson and Highland Springs Avenue, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokesman Mark Annas.

One person had to be cut from the wreckage, Annas said.

As of 9:15 a.m., Highland Springs and 8th remained closed to traffic while police gathered evidence and cleared the area.  Police officials on scene tell Banning-Beaumont Patch that the area was expected to be cleared within two to three hours, and recommended people use Xenia to access the Sundance housing community.

Though the accident site is near Banning's San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital, drivers can still access the facility and area medical offices.

The case of the crash is under investigation.
