Two people were hospitalized— one of them with major injuries— in a Wednesday morning crash in Beaumont, fire officials report.

The crash was reported just after 6 a.m., at the intersection of 8th Street/Wilson and Highland Springs Avenue, according to Riverside County Fire Department Spokesman Mark Annas.

One person had to be cut from the wreckage, Annas said.

As of 9:15 a.m., Highland Springs and 8th remained closed to traffic while police gathered evidence and cleared the area.  Police officials on scene tell Banning-Beaumont Patch that the area was expected to be cleared within two to three hours, and recommended people use Xenia to access the Sundance housing community.

Though the accident site is near Banning's San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital, drivers can still access the facility and area medical offices.

The case of the crash is under investigation.

Chloe, David and Tony, my condolences to you. I live near that intersection. The speed that some people travel on West Wilson is truly dangerous, sometimes it seems at almost freeway speeds. I'm sure the same can be said for Highland Springs. Couple that with someone who is not paying attention and suddenly a loved one is taken from their family and friends. Hope the police can do a better job of enforcing the speed limits on these roads. Once again my condolences for your loss

Concerned Citizen - you don't even know what happened except what you read and you are already running your mouth. Why don't you have a little compassion and leave this thread for the family and well-wishers? The other person was hurt too and you have no information how old they are or whether they even survived. You certainly don't know their intent was to run that light. Chloe, David and Tony, my condolences and I am sorry you have to have this "concerned citizen" intruding on your sorrow trying to gather attention for himself. I and others will be praying for you. **** Jeremiah

chloe membrino February 05, 2014 at 07:16 PM
And I thank everyone for their condolences it is a very hard thing to deal with esp previously with how close we were to her
chloe membrino February 05, 2014 at 07:21 PM
i DO NOT appreciate your sarcasm concerned citized
caitlin membrino February 05, 2014 at 07:22 PM
look @concerned Citizen no one could be more angry an hurt than our family but this is not the time or place to be petty so please if you are going to do this do it else where, the driver will be held resposible for their actions whether they were intentional or not.
concerned citizen February 05, 2014 at 07:33 PM
The driver will get a slap on the wrist just like the one who killed the Green Produce guy in Banning. And I have no compassion for anyone who drives with no regard to others. And Jeremiah, you must be one of the idiots who runs the lights.
caitlin membrino February 05, 2014 at 07:46 PM
please stop. People who blow things even more sky high like you make things worse for families like ours.
Mario Felix February 05, 2014 at 07:58 PM
Concerned Citizen, I know the driver personally, and know for a fact that he drives at least 10-12 miles below the speed limit at all times.... He's famous for it... He and his family are some of the nicest people you will ever meet.... I'm sure they're devastated to know about the poor lady that died.....
Mario Felix February 05, 2014 at 07:59 PM
Same goes for you D.A.
caitlin membrino February 05, 2014 at 08:34 PM
Mario, Hon from the way the remains of the crash came out the driver of the car coming down highland springs was driving at a higher speed whether or not it was over the speed limit doesn't really have anything to do with it. You can tell by the carnage on one vehicle compared to the other. The car going at an higher speed Has a higher amount of damage, but there were no skid marks so neither driver saw it coming so it may have been a situation of Texting and driving or just not paying attention to the light.
caitlin membrino February 05, 2014 at 08:37 PM
And thank you for your condolances
caitlin membrino February 05, 2014 at 08:42 PM
@mario felix I am sorry that your friend was also involved, We all know that no one sets out to harm anyone in this situation it was just a wrong place at the wrong time incident, and both families are suffering right now.
Alexander Cuttleworth February 05, 2014 at 08:49 PM
So very sad. My thoughts and prayers for both families, and especially for Chloe and her family.
Susan P February 05, 2014 at 08:59 PM
Prayers for all involved, and especially to the family who lost a loved one.

Two weekends ago we were turning right onto 8th. Stopped at stop light and a car exactly like the silver one was doing 100mph traveling W through the intersection.... Makes me think it's the same habitual speeder. Damages that push an entire front end into the cowl panel is speeding heavily. The SL is 35-50 there. As an accident researcher as a professional job. The silver car was not going 25-40 mph. Sorry... The damages and fatality prove that. Our prayers to both families. I do hope whoever ran the light has learned valuable lesson. Life is short, be careful cause you can harm another by foolish mistakes.

Having to wake up and think "oh i should call my grandma" everyday and then to fully wake up and realize that she was stolen from my family. My mother has lost her mother. the woman she could lean on and talk to about anything. I hope the driver realizes what they took because of carlessness.
Jacqueline Ketterle February 06, 2014 at 09:35 AM
To the family of the beautiful lady driving the PT cruiser. I just wanted to let you know I was there I was the first one with your grandma. I stayed right with her talking to her (all thou she was no conscious ) I also placed my hands on her and prayed for her... She was not alone. The person driving the silver car was a lady not the man he was a passenger. Very sad morning my heart goes out to the family that lost their mother/ grandmother. If you have any questions you can contact me via email. Jackiebearysweet@gmail.com
caitlin membrino February 06, 2014 at 10:47 PM
Thank you so much! It is a relief to hear that she did not die alone, I thank you so much for stopping to help very few actually do.
Jacqueline Ketterle February 06, 2014 at 10:50 PM
A friend of Yolandi wrote this to my email and then asked me to post it here...... My husband and I have been a friends of Yolandi for over 30 years. She was my best friend. She truly was an amazing lady. A wife, mother, grandmother, friend and over the years the foster mother and shelter mother of over 400 children. She has touched so many lives. I know that you have touched many with your kindness. Your post has brought me and I'm sure many others comfort in knowing she was not alone. On her behalf as well as mine.. I want to thank you. You could have stood back and just watched. There are no words that can thank you enough. She was truly blessed to have had you there. And I hope you feel blessed to have met her for the short time you were with her. Sincerely with warm regards. Donnell. Donnell I was honored to have been there for Yolandi. I begged the cops to please tell her family she was not alone. I am so happy I was able to express this with you. Prayers are for you and her family.

Thank you for staying by Mrs. Shoemaker. Mrs. Yolandi Shoemaker has been a pillar of wisdom for me for 39 years and her love expanded as my family grew. Yesterday I lost a mom that showed love to me. In 1975 Dad Shoe and Ma Shoe took kids like me in their child shelter home which was in Banning, that's where I lived in my junior year of high school and I've not let go of their love since then. God bless all those that are hurting. Robin

This is so sad, prayers to you and all of the family! That intersection always has people who speed, I would like to see law enforcement do something about that.
Jacqueline Ketterle February 07, 2014 at 09:41 PM
To all of Mrs shoemaker family I don't feel that I did anything out of the ordinary. What I did was from my heart. I'm just grateful for being able to post on here to let you all know she was not alone. I am glad I was there for her. May God Bless you all.
