Teen Smashes Infiniti in Fiery Crash, Passenger Dies

A 17-year-old boy driving a luxury car lost control and smashed head-on into another vehicle, killing his 40-year-old passenger in a fiery crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Alfonso D. Perez, 40, of Moreno Valley, was killed in the collision Friday at Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, north of College Boulevard, the CHP reported. A 3-year-old boy who was a passenger in the second car escaped with only minor injuries.

Officers received a call at 4:04 p.m. and discovered a 2004 Infiniti had crashed and burned on Sycamore Canyon Boulevard, a two-lane frontage road next to routes 60 and 215 between Moreno Valley and Riverside.

The teen, a San Jacinto resident, had apparently been speeding northwest in a 2004 Infiniti on at 60 to 65 mph, in a posted 45 mile per hour zone. The teen apparently lost control and veered across the double-yellow lines, according to the CHP.

The teen's vehicle plowed into a 2006 Nissan sedan heading the opposite direction, at about the posted 45 mph, CHP officers said.

Tatiana L. King, 22, a Moreno Valley resident, was driving the Nissan at about the speed limit and suffered moderate injuries. Her toddler passenger was not seriously hurt, the CHP reported.

King and her passenger were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center. The teenage driver suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to the same hospital.

The fatal crash remained under investigation, CHP officials said.
