Man Suspected in 3 Kidnap Attempts in San Jacinto Arrested in San Bernardino

A 33-year-old man wanted in connection with three kidnap attempts in San Jacinto was arrested Wednesday in San Bernardino, a Riverside County sheriff's sergeant said.

was arrested about 1 a.m. Wednesday at 4296 N. Sepulveda Ave. #105, west of Wildwood Park and North Waterman Avenue, according to inmate records.

Lewis was held Wednesay afternoon at Smith Correctional in Banning on suspicion of seven felonies and two misdemeanors, according to inmate records. He has a court appearance Friday in Murrieta.

Lewis was wanted for questioning about incidents between Feb. 13 and Feb. 17, when "the San Jacinto Police Department received independent reports of a male attempting to lure middle-school-aged girls into his vehicle," Sgt. W. Clear of the sheriff's Hemet Station said.

"In each of the reported cases, the young girls did not approach the suspect's vehicle and were unharmed," Clear said.

The suspect was described as a black male adult, 30 to 40 years of age, about six feet tall, and driving a red sedan, Clear said. Through further investigation, Lewis was identified as the suspect, Clear said.

"On April 17, 2012, The Inland Regional Apprehension Team received information of a potential location in San Bernardino for suspect, Kareem Lewis," Clear said. "At approximately 1:00AM, after hours of surveillance, the apprehension team arrested Kareem Lewis for his felony warrant. He was transported to the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning and currently has a bail of $1,000,000."

The Inland Regional Apprehension Team - IRAT - is a multi-agency task force managed by the FBI to assist law enforcement agencies with identifying and locating individuals suspected of committing violent crimes, Clear said.
