SoCal Border Patrol Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself While Cleaning Gun

The U.S. Border Patrol agent was not identified.

A U.S. Border Patrol officer was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself in a hand while cleaning his gun, it was reported today.

The unidentified person was taken from the 3100 block of Tequila Way near Dairy Mart Road in San Ysidro to UC San Diego Medical Center shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher.

Five children were in the San Ysidro home when the accident happened, according to U-T San Diego.

Border Patrol officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
