Resources assigned to the fire included 46 engines, five helicopters, six air tankers including the DC-10, 10 crews, five dozers, and four water tenders.
The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. Sept. 24 near Glen Helen Road and west of Interstate 15, prompting mandatory evacuations on Glen Helen at around 5:30 p.m., a Forest Service spokesman said earlier Tuesday.
"This afternoon the fire spread quickly to 200 acres," incident commanders said in an update at 10 p.m. Sept. 24. "Crews will continue to fight the fire overnight and we will have updated acreage and containment figures in the morning."
Evacuations remained in effect on Glen Helen Road west of Interstate 15 late Tuesday and they were to become voluntary at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.
Containment of the fire is hoped for by 6 p.m. Friday Sept. 27.
Further west near Azusa in L.A. County, the 250-acre Madre Fire that started Monday Sept. 23 was estimated 70 percent contained, according to the Forest Service.

"We've got a helitanker and an air attack too," acting base manager Kelly Mathis said in a phone interview at 6:30 p.m.
