Sheriff's Helicopter Crew Picks Up Three Lost Hikers Near Fuller Ridge, Below San Jacinto Peak

Three hikers got lost near Fuller Ridge, between Black Mountain and San Jacinto Peak, and a sheriff's helicopter crew rescued them uninjured Saturday evening, a sheriff's sergeant said Sunday.

The hikers, who were not identified, telephoned for help and deputies responded at 6:53 p.m. Saturday, Sgt. Robert Himmelberg of the Riverside County sheriff's Hemet Station said.

A sheriff's helicopter crew searched and located the hikers, Himmelberg said. The helicopter crew picked up the lost hikers and flew them to safety.

The hikers were not injured and did not require medical attention, Himmelberg said.

Fuller Ridge, jagged and exposed in places, stretches about five miles from Black Mountain to just below San Jacinto Peak. Beaumont, Banning, Cabazon and the rest of the San Gorgonio Pass are visible from the trail.

Details of the hikers' intended route were not released.
